2006 Oujda, Morocco

Oujda, a city of 400,000 inhabitants is the eastern capital of Morocco close to the Algerian border (10 km). The area under review was the old railway marshall yards. The whole area is targeted as the new growth pole of the agglomeration, a site of 40 ha in the centre of the city. The Panel took a much broader look at the development potential of the area and proposed a totally new concept of an Urban Oasis.
