Summer Course
2011 Azores, Portugal
The 2011 edition of the INTA Summer Course was organised in partnership with OTA (Observatory of Tourism of the Azores) and was practical course to sharpen skills in tourism development issues.
It included lectures, workshops and visits to innovative tourism projects in the Azores. The course included workshops for participants - 5-10 September - , as well as meetings between experts and local stakeholders which occured in Pico, Terceira and S. Miguel - 3-10 September which led to a final presentation with some recommendations from the international experts.
The 2011 edition of Summer Course has focused on the following topics: development, branding and marketing, ICT, hospitality, business and services, new applications for tourism, heritage and innovation and regional sustainable development.
PROGRAMME OF THE COURSE

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
9.00 - 10.00 – Visit of Angra do Heroísmo city center.
10.00 - 12.30– Tour of Terceira Island: stopping at the Algar do Carvão, Biscoitos and Serra do Facho.
14.00 - 16.30 - Round table on local accommodation facilities
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
8.30 - 12.00 – Visit of São Miguel Island.
14.00 - 15.30 - Workshop 1: "Crisis and Ruptures, Tourism as a Lever of Regional Development". This workshop will analyze the following themes: new trends and recent changes in tourism practices and in the contribution of tourism to regional and urban development.
