Metropolis 10th World Congress “Cities in Transition" – Porto Alegre (23-26 November 2011)

MetropolisPortoAlegreAs a result of the present situation in Egypt, Metropolis, in agreement with the city of Cairo, has decided to change the dates and host city of the Association’s 10th World Congress, which was to have been held in the Egyptian capital in April 2011. At the last Metropolis Board of Directors meeting in Barcelona in October 2010, the city of Porto Alegre was chosen as the site of the 2012 Board of Directors meeting.

Porto Alegre therefore assumes the challenge of moving its schedule forward as the host city of a Metropolis event of this scope, making the required infrastructures and staff available to organize the 10th World Congress of the network. The dates agreed on for the event are from 23 to 26 November 2011.

The Congress will be based around the idea of “Cities in Transition”. The current context in constant evolution emphasizes the need to review the urban policies undertaken to date and to apply creative and sustainable solutions under a new paradigm that improves the quality of life of all members of the public.

The event will offer a framework of reflection around the following central themes: Urban Growth and Planning, Governance and Quality of Life, Climate Change and Sustainability, Innovation and Mobility. It will also be a chance to learn first-hand about the groundbreaking public policies implemented by Porto Alegre.

We will shortly provide more information on the program, registration and logistics on the event’s provisional website.
