Our Cities - Urban Network in Latin America
Our Cities - Urban Network in Latin America is a network in Latin America with the goal is to provide a service to the Latin American community by expressing and exposing urban problems, disseminating the principles of urban planning in its broadest sense, including theoretical production in different thematic areas, and recommending, proposing and evaluating possible solutions and ways of funding or sponsorship.
Our Cities (Nuestras Ciudades), was born as a Network of Latin American Urban Planners on the Internet, at a time when there was little to nothing in our language (Spanish) on the web.
The site was born in 2003 with the creation of a Forum of City Planners named Our Cities Group-Latin American Planners's Network (2003-2010) and another site called SIAPI - Latin American Planning Support, which existed from 2003 to 2008, when the name changed to On Cities - Urban Dictionary but maintained its original characteristics: a database and dictionary of terms used in urban planning (currently being transferred for operational reasons to Blogspot.com ) and a list of on-line glossaries for consultation. Later, from 2004-2010, three forums were added to the network: Group Our Space, Chain of Cities, and Healthy Cities, along with other listings.
Over the years, three additional blogs were created to meet our needs:
- The official blog for the diffusion of the network: Our Cities - Urban Development in Latin America
- On international treaties and resolutions: Urban World
- On urban corruption: Made the law loophole
Together, this group of web sites advises local governments, NGOs, foundations and non-profit associations and disseminates their activities, gives technical support in the area of sustainable urban development and appropriate responses for each individual problem throughout Latin America using local professionals and interdisciplinary teams with vast experience in the area and familiarity with the reality of our countries, which vary greatly in their urban morphology and cultural from the anglo saxon countries.(We learn from their studies and research, but we adapt them to our respective realities.
