Objective 2030
Objective 2030 is a programme under which several INTA activities in
the coming years will benchmark and anticipate trends that support new,
intelligent and sustainable urban growth.
In this programme, INTA members work together towards a
forward-looking, long-term vision on the future development of cities
and territories with the aim to access approaches, policy and
management tools needed today to make tomorrow's urban and regional development integrated and more
sustainable.
The aim of Objective 2030:
- To create a better understanding of the role of innovation in the production of new urban services,
- To propose comprehensive policies for implementation,
- To build management capacity to strengthen the development skills
at local and regional levels required by the innovation flowing into
the urban system.
To reach these goals, Objective 2030 involves Communities of Competences, multi-sectoral clusters of INTA members. The work of the Communities of Competences is presented during regular prospective roundtables.
Communities of Competences
The Communities of Competences provide multi-sectoral platforms to promote excellence and share practices in specific urban fields.
The objective of the communities is to identify issues that cities and territories will be confronted with in the coming 20 years and to develop management policies that need to be implemented to ensure further sustainable development.
The communities look at urban processes and strategies from an integrated perspective, bringing together complementary factors and functions that will shape future development of cities and territories. The final results of the work of the communities will be brought together at the World Urban Development Council and presented at INTA’s Annual Congress.
Members of the communities exchange knowledge and experiences and provide each other with strategic advice to reinforce, disseminate and promote innovative solutions in their particular field of interest. Thanks to their engagement in the Communities, INTA members are equipped with instruments, methods and support to take justified urban strategic decisions.

Prospective Roundtables
Critical issues identified by the Communities of Competences will be explored through a series of Prospective Roundtables.
The roundtables focus on the whole range of physical, economic, social and cultural factors that will transform and shape future urban policies. The roundtables bring together practitioners from INTA’s network: national and local urban policy makers, urban actors, opinion leaders, professionals, economic actors, end users and community representatives, researchers, etc.
Each roundtable, of limited participation for 2 full days, establishes how cities might evolve over the next decades, outlines the conditions and criteria that will make tomorrow's cities sustainable, proposes the financial and governance arrangements, cross-sectoral partnerships, public policy interventions, community initiatives to make these transformations happen in a sustainable way.
